Up at the lake

I am currently listening to The Charlatans‘ new album - Up at the lake. Singer Tim Burgess cites Curtis Mayfield, New Order, David Lynch and Bob Dylan as influences on Up at the Lake. Some of my absolute favourites - how could I not buy it?

I bought their very first album, Some Friendly, in 1990 when I was a bright-eyed schoolboy and into the whole Madchester thing. I remember having a poster on my bedroom wall - it was entitled IN THE AREA and split into four sections containing pictures of The Charlatans, Stone Roses, Inspiral Carpets, and Happy Mondays.
Back then I rated The Charlatans as my fourth favourite of the pack, but they are the band who have kept on keeping on. I have seen them a few times over the years, have bought all their albums and feel like we have grown up together.
Cheers, guys. Looking forward to seeing you at the Fleadh Festival this summer.

I like the Charlatans, but they don’t really do much original stuff now. It is mostly stealing - chunks of Bob Dylan - lyrics and tunes - can be heard all over the last few albums. Still worth a listen though.
